I decided to try to do NaBloPoMo as part of my 101 in 1001 days list, and went strong for about 15 days or so. Then I realized something. It was incredibly stupid. Forcing myself to post every day added no value to this blog, it didn’t make me any more creative. Trying to come up with something to write for NaBloPoMo is probably the first time I’ve hated updating this blog. Sure, my updates are far and few in between, but when I do update, I actually enjoy it. So screw NaBloPoMo. I’m going to just delete it from my list, since I can’t cross it off, and I have no intention of attempting it again.
Wow, my viewer ratings are so low that spammers aren’t even bothering with me anymore. I guess it will change if start posting something of value. Well, I’ll work on something for tomorrow.
Day 14, still nothing interesting in my life… Don’t worry, though, word is that on day 20, I’ll be replaced by Jay Leno, so it’s all good.
Well, another short token post. Sorry, been spending most of my time working on Wasted Degrees. Right now the design isn’t much, but take a look at it in a couple of days.
Dear NBC Executives,
My name is Travis Harder and I am writing to express my disagreement with your recent decisions regarding your late night schedule. I feel that moving Jay Leno back to 11:35, pushing Conan O’Brien back to 12:05 and Jimmy Fallon to 1:05 is not only a mistake, but simply wrong. The fact of the matter is, Jay Leno is past his prime and isn’t funny anymore, to anyone except old people. True, Conan has not done as well as David Letterman recently, but that is because you have failed to give Conan a good lead in. Obviously, it makes sense to get rid of Leno, however, moving him to 11:35, screwing Conan and Jimmy Fallon over in the process makes no sense. If people aren’t watching Leno now, what makes you think they’ll watch him when he goes back to 11:35? Sure, he had viewers before he “retired”, but he’s not going back to a hour long comedy/talk show, like he had before. People watched Leno because he had the big name guests. Putting him in a 30 minute show, relying solely on his comedy will fail. Pushing Conan and Fallon back half an hour will give David Letterman and Craig Ferguson a major advantage, and people aren’t going to watch half an hour of Letterman and switch to NBC for Conan. Furthermore, Conan has now said that he will not host The Tonight Show at 12:05. If you are going to lose a host either way, lose Leno. At best, you’ll get another 5-10 years of bad comedy and low ratings with him, whereas with Conan, you will get many years of a genuinely funny show. It was bad enough when you lost David Letterman because of Leno, don’t lost Conan as well. Fox has already said that they would be willing to do a show with Conan, and I will follow Conan to Fox if he takes them up on that offer. Think about this: if Fox decides to go into the late night game, they will logically want a later show to follow Conan O’Brien’s. Jimmy Fallon can’t be happy about his treatment, either. It’s not unreasonable to think that he may follow Conan to Fox, leaving you with, what, Carson Daly to host Late Night? Where is the upside to this? How do you benefit by pissing off the host of your flagship late night show? How does causing more splintering benefit NBC? Let me end this by saying that if you do not cancel your current plans to move Leno back to 11:35, I cannot continue to support the network by watching. Furthermore, I will contact any company that advertises on Leno’s show and let them know that as long as they are advertising with Leno, I will not purchase their products and/or services.
Travis Harder
Well, I have like 3 minutes left to post this on time, so let me just say that what happened to Conan sucks and I feel bad for him.
Well, day 10 of NaBloPoMo. I think I may be able to make it… I guess it’s not hard when you only make half-assed posts like this once, but meh. Let me just say that the fact that Leno is going back to 11:30, while Conan and Fallon are getting pushed back 30 minutes is stupid, the Simpsons 20th Anniversary special was pretty good, but the 450th episode sucked.
Day 9 of my attempt at blogging once a day for a month. Starting to question the genius of this idea. That said, I’ll finish this month off, since it’s on my list. Don’t think I’ll ever try it again, though… I figured, however, to change things up, I’d give quick summarized opinions on some of the bigger news stories right now.
- Harper proroguing Parliament: absolutely horrible, I hope he gets punted out of office int he next election because of this. Make the damn government work, don’t abuse your powers to avoid having to act democratically.
- Reid’s “negro” comment and apology: WTF?! That is one of the stupidest things you can say when you’re a politician, even if you think it’s “behind closed doors” I’m just surprised it took almost 3 years for this to see the light of day.
- The NBC late night fiasco: Way to fail. This is why you don’t put a talk show in prime time against real TV shows. That said, Conan is much better than Leno, if they bump Conan, bad things will happen. Seriously, NBC, you’re not supposed to destroy the network until after Comcast takes over. Also, The Jay Leno show just isn’t funny. Did he fire all of his writers (though, he was actually funnier without his writers). That said, that Berman guy they quoted can go die. 30 Rock is amazing. They just need to advertise their damn shows. They did the same thing with Scrubs. It was (and still is) an amazing show, and I don’t know anybody who’s seen it and didn’t like it, but most people have never seen it because NBC doesn’t advertise anything. The only advertising you ever see on NBC is “watch Law and Order”, “watch Law and Order: SVU”, “screw Law and Order: Criminal Intent”.
I think that’s about all I can write about for now. Thoughts on my bulletin point format? Thoughts on some of my older, more in depth posts? Thought on my filler posts? Let me know.
Throat still hurts, tired as hell. Not really going to make much more of a post beyond that today, maybe I’ll make a bigger post tomorrow…
Hmmm, not really much to say today, other than my throat hurts like hell. I ended up calling in sick to work today, since when I woke up, I could barely speak. Not fun. I’m starting to feel better now, so I guess getting that extra sleep helped. Well, I guess that’s all I have to write until tomorrow.
